Proudly serving the community for over 45 years!
The Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Heritage Society is a non-profit organization which was formed in 1972 to support agriculture, horticulture, home making, and quality of life in the community. The Ag Society's goal is to ensure that they keep the history of the community alive for both the present and future generations. When the 1958 Grain Elevator was marked for demolition after the last manager left in 1995, the SG Ag Society stepped-in to preserve the Elevator as a working museum. Since then, several thousand visitors have toured the elevator and museum.
The Ag Society, a group of dedicated volunteer members, has been instrumental in contributing to the community, beginning with the construction of the Spruce Grove "Agrena" (now a hockey and curling rink) and hosting their annual AgraFair. This event grew to become Western Canada’s largest Agricultural Fair. The Agricultural Fair was discontinued in the 1990s.

Since then, the Grain Elevator site has become a very busy venue with different old fashion carnivals and fairs, specifically tailored towards kids and families. Each year t
housands of visitors from Canada and around the world visit the
Grain Elevator Museum, Archives, and Farmers' Market. The Agricultural Society also sponsors the Spruce Grove Archives, and sponsors two students to attend the annual ACCA educational Youth Program.

Several annual summer fund-raising events such as Flapjacks at the Tracks Community Pancake Breakfast, the Farm & Heritage Carnival, and the Harvest Fair are hosted by the Ag Society and are popular among community members and visitors.
Events hosted at the Elevator Museum site are for the purpose of raising funds to support ongoing maintenance of the Grain Elevator and restored Water Tower, educational programs, and promotions for the Agricultural Society.

The Spruce Grove & District Agricultural Society's recent significant projects:
  • 2016 - Re-painting of the exterior, foundation, and wall repair, and front and back door replacement.
  • 2016 - 3 new flag poles installed.
  • 2016 - moved a donated vintage 1940s era little red barn onto the Spruce Grove Grain Elevator site.
  • 2012 - painting and restoration of the wooden Grain Elevator Museum.
  • 2011 - the restoration of the old Spruce Grove Water Tower that served Spruce Grove citizens until 1978.
  • The Spruce Grove & District Agricultural Society's long-term goal is to build an Elevator Emporium - a building which will serve as a major tourist and heritage facility for the City of Spruce Grove. The building will be constructed on the elevator site and will resemble a period train station. It will house the Spruce Grove Archives, the Museum collection, Tea House, Gift Shop, and a conference room. This dynamic centre will serve visitors and tourists, but could also be used as a facility for community events and groups. In February 2016, a building project feasibility study was completed, and was presented to the City of Spruce Grove at a counsel meeting in June, 2016.

New Building Steering Committee - Public Meeting

SG Grain Elevator Museum Site - Workshop Building, 120 Railway Avenue, Spruce Grove, Alberta

Looking for people from the community to participate in an inaugural Steering Committee meeting where we would work on a plan to facilitate the development of a new building on the grain elevator site. Please see the below for more information.

Please join us on May 24!

The Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Heritage Society invite you to participate in an inaugural Steering Committee meeting to discuss the proposed development of a new multipurpose facility at the Spruce Grove Grain Elevator Museum site.

We are searching for people in the community with attributes suitable to our mission. These attributes would include experience in one or more of the following: - Capital Finance Development - Building/Project Management - Community Liaison/awareness in various levels of Government - Fundraising or sponsorship strategies and experience.

The Spruce Grove Ag. Society was incorporated in 1972. Our members, volunteers and sponsors have been the backbone of making the SG Ag Society a success for over forty years now. Many of you may remember the hugely popular “Agra Fair”, later to be replaced by the Corn Roast, and now Farm & Heritage Carnival, and Harvest Fair. The Ag Society is a huge part of the history of Spruce Grove and Region, and we would love to have your input on the proposed new multi-puporse facility to be built right in the heart of Spruce Grove - at the Grain Elevator Museum.

The vision of one day having a multi-purpose building is now our focus. The purpose of the building is to have a facility that could house our current programs and activities. These currently include the SG Farmer’s Market, Spruce Grove Archives, Homesteaders Museum, and Ag Society Community Events.

To date, the Ag Society has purchased additional land to the east of the existing site to accommodate the footprint of the building. The designated building area has been reclaimed and serviced and the parking lot prepared for future paving. RC Strategies has completed a Feasibility Study which has already been presented to both the City of Spruce Grove and Parkland County and preliminary building plans have been designed by Stantec Engineering.

As a steering Committee member your leadership, experience and networking capabilities would be valuable assets in reaching our project goal.

Please join us to discuss the new building project, and bring along your expertise and ideas to an upcoming Steering Committee meeting on Wednesday, May 24th, 2017, at 7pm at the Grain Elevator Workshop - 120 Railway Avenue, Spruce Grove.

Please RSVP to President, Rick Lee at or (780) 966 0321. We very much look forward to meeting you there. Thank you for your interest!
